Humane Mouse Trap versus Standard Mouse Traps
Whether you want to consider a mouse an animal is up for debate. The fact that there is a significant movement out there to make sure that mice are caught, but not harmed is a reality. The great debate over what type of mouse trap should be used has caused a growth in this niche of the industry that is causing an explosion of various mousetraps for the consumer to choose from. Standard or humane mouse trap is the question, only you can make the decision.
The first motivator for most people will be how much it costs. After all, you are talking about something that is more than likely going to be thrown out and you don’t want to spend a lot of money on it. Well something to consider is that while a humane mouse trap will cost a few more dollars, you can reuse them. This is not an option with a glue trap or a snap trap.
Another consideration is the clean up factor. If you are using a snap trap, you risk the mouse literally being obliterated and causing an extreme mess. The last thing you want to do is clean that up. None of the other types of traps need take this into consideration. While you may want the mouse dead, splattering it all over your home may not be a desired result.
If you have children or pets, you may again want to reconsider the glue traps and the snap traps. Anyone, including the family pet, can get hurt if they get caught in a snap trap. This may also be a concern if you have small children who will not necessarily listen when you tell them to stay away. Glue traps are also a concern as it is very easy for them to get stuck on someone’s shoes or on the paw of your pet.
While glue traps may not seem to be as brutal as the snap traps, they have their own method of killing the rodent that may not exactly be very attractive to some. Once the rodent is caught on the glue board, it is trapped there to starve until it dies.
If you have never witnessed the process, what you get to hear is the squeaking of a mouse for days on end until it dies. The only way to avoid this is to actually pick up the trap with a live mouse on it and dispose of it. Either way, this is not an attractive option for most people.
Whether you consider yourself a humane person or not in regards to setting a mouse trap, it is pretty easy to see why a humane mouse trap is a much better option. You can either use something that will quietly catch the little invader and allow you to take it outside and release it or you can use a trap that gives you the option of listening to it being tortured or worse yet, obliterates it all over your home. The choice doesn’t seem so hard to make now, does it?
